چکیده

The incidence of prostate cancer in Taiwan has increased in recent years, possible because of better detection with screening methods, such as the measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, transrectal ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Most of the cases that are diagnosis early are operable and were, therefore, treated surgically. Historically, open radical prostatectomy (ORP) is the standard procedure to treat those patients surgically. However, as the robotic machine comes out, there is another option to treat localized prostate cancer. In this study, we retrospectively to compare the open radical prostatectomy and robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy. Thirty three patients received mini-laparotomy radical prostatectomy (MRP), which is a new technique in our hospital and 27 patients received robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RLRP). The days of hospital stay of MRP and RLRP were ten and eight days respectively. As we compared the results of the operation time, blood loss, catheterization’s duration, and length of hospital stay, and cost, we conclude that open radical prostatectomy should not be given up in the developing country. Those young urologists who want to learn the robotic laparoscopic surgery techniques should have the basic training of open radical prostatectomy.

Pitfalls of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: a comparison of positive surgical margins between robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

OBJECTIVES To compare the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, including the frequency and location of positive surgical margins. METHODS The study cohort comprised 708 consecutive male patients with clinically localized prostate cancer who underwent laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (n = 551) or robot-assisted radical prostatectom...

Robot-assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy: a Review of Technique and Outcomes

There has been an increase in the incidence of prostate cancer over time, and it now constitutes 15% of all male cancers in developed countries and 4% in developing countries. Radical prostatectomy is the gold-standard treatment choice in cases determined with organ-confined prostate cancer and life expectancy is >10 years. Currently in the USA, 80% of radical prostatectomy operations are robot...

CyberKnife Ablation of a Solitary Para-Aortic Lymph Node Metastasis After Robotic-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy

Introduction: Radical prostatectomy is an effective curative treatment option for organ-confined prostate cancer. There is a recent trend in offering curative treatment to patients with oligometastatic disease. More sensitive imaging modalities can identify oligometastatic disease that is not usually detected by conventional imaging techniques. Case presentation: We present a case in which a s...

Laparoscopic versus Robotic-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy for the Treatment of Localised Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND Prostate cancer is a prominent form of cancer diagnosed in men living in developed countries, for which radical prostatectomy is a common frontline treatment. The aim of this systematic review was to determine whether robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP) is more effective in the treatment of localised prostate cancer, compared to laparoscopic radical prostatectomy...

A Case of Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy in Primary Small Cell Prostate Cancer

Primary small cell carcinoma of the prostate is a rare and very aggressive disease with a poor prognosis, even in its localized form. We managed a case of primary small cell carcinoma of the prostate. The patient was treated with robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy. Herein we report this first case of robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy perf...
